Invert span glitch effect for image bands
Invert Spans flips displayed color inside scattered horizontal bands. The rest of the picture keeps its original color.
All channels produce a negative strip. One channel produces a hue shift inside that strip instead of a full negative.
Creative applications
- Cut a poster with negative bands while the headline stays readable.
- Flip a single channel in strips for a broken-color interruption.
Starting workflow
- Open Invert Spans on an image with a recognizable subject.
- Set Span height, then raise Coverage until the flipped bands are spaced the way you want.
- Switch Channel from All to one color when a full negative strip is too strong.
Key controls
- Span height
Set Span height for thin interruptions or broader negative bands.
Default: 4.5% · Range: 0.8% to 25%
- Coverage
Raise Coverage to flip more bands. Zero leaves the picture unchanged.
Default: 0.35 · Range: 0 to 1
- Channel
Choose All to invert red, green, and blue, or one channel to leave the others alone.
Default: All · Choices: All, Red, Green, Blue
Practical tips
- Use the Color collection's Invert when the whole image should become a negative.
- Use Digital Dropout when a region should become a flat color instead of an inverted picture.
- Keep faces mostly uncovered if you want them to stay recognizable.
Limitations
- Spans are horizontal. This effect has no vertical span control and does not replace pixels with a flat color.
