Displace static glitch effect for fine jitter
Displace Static moves the sample position on a fine grid. The picture sparkles in place instead of gaining a coat of colored noise.
Edges break into small steps. A larger cell reads as chunkier jitter; a larger amount wanders farther.

Creative applications
- Roughen a clean digital poster without adding a new color.
- Add a restless grain to a cover image while playback runs.
Starting workflow
- Open Displace Static on a detailed image.
- Set Cell size for the grain, then raise Amount until edges shiver.
- Lower Coverage to leave some cells still. Run motion to refresh the jitter.
Key controls
- Amount
Increase Amount to push each selected cell farther. Zero leaves the picture unchanged.
Default: 0.02 · Range: 0 to 0.08
- Cell size
Use a small Cell size for fine static and a larger one for chunkier steps.
Default: 1.2% · Range: 0.4% to 6%
- Coverage
Lower Coverage so some cells stay on their original sample.
Default: 0.85 · Range: 0 to 1
Practical tips
- Use Digital Noise when you want added color and bands instead of a moved sample.
- Use Block Displacement when large rectangles should relocate.
- Pause playback to compare Amount, then run it to see the grid refresh.
Limitations
- The jitter refreshes with playback. This effect does not add colored static or move large blocks as a group.
